Hickory Penang Hill

A peaceful retreat away from the hubbub at the summit.

Pros: A charming 1920s bungalow with magnificent views and very welcoming staff. It was good to be away from the busy restaurants and stalls at the top of the hill. The kitchen staff went out of their way to provide vegetarian meals for us.

Cons: Loved everything

Easy walking trails nearby, fantastic stay.

Pros: The meals were amazing. The view is breathtaking. The staff were awesome and went out of their way to help me when I got stuck at the funicular with my luggage to get up the hill. Raj runs a good ship and he even went as far as to reach out to me after I made my booking to give me guidance on how to get to the site. The location is just…. Wow. That view is worth a million dollars. The sound of the jungle at night is also awesome.

Cons: To get up the hill is a mission. Not Hickory’s fault, but don’t be silly like me and try take a suitcase up the funicular (tram). The only other way up is to pay 160 myr to get a jeep up the road as only 4x4 vehicles can go up the hill. Also, the coffee selection isn’t great. Mostly instant with heaps of sugar and creamer mixed in pre packaged instant coffee. There was a plunger, but not enough ground coffee for my stay.

Great play to chill, relax, with many walk trails to showcase the natural beauty of the area.

Pros: The tranquillity. Friendly staff. Cleanliness. There is a restaurant, next nearest place to get something to eat, is a good walk away.

Cons: The bed was much firmer than what i would like, but still okay

Pros: It was an excellent getaway. Takes you away from the hassle and buzzel of the city. Hickory made it even better with their excellent staff, food, and cleanliness of the place. We had a BBQ dinner, and everything was arranged to perfection.

Pros: It’s a lovely property with beautiful floor tiles & has a great view of Georgetown. I enjoyed watching the sunrise sky before breakfast. Love the garden setting where guest can have breakfast with the beautiful view of surrounding greenery & Georgetown. The staffs are excellent!

Great place for a family outing

Pros: It was strategically placed with a good view of Penang Staff were friendly and helpful Rooms were clean Decorations ard the property was beautiful and unique

Cons: The fittings were a bit old , but again this is a unique feature of the property There was a power outage the night that I stayed , but it was no fault of the property- the saving grace was the lights was solar powered so we don’t need to worry about the dark

We had a relaxing stay at the hotel.

Pros: Breakfast is good. Dinner is reasonably priced and good. Good view of Penang and good view of sunrise from the hotel. Staff are friendly and accommodating when we request early breakfast at 7.30

Cons: Hotel is 5 minutes walk from lower tunnel station, tram only stops at station hourly on request. Or have to take jeep from botanic garden costing 180rg return. 30 minutes Steep walk from hotel to hill top.

Certainly a place I would stay again and recommend as a must stay if visiting Penang

Pros: The property is renovated beautifully, keeping the old time charm. The view of the east side of Penang was amazing especially at night. We were lucky to be there while Kek Lok Si temple was lit up for CNY. Raj, the owner, was so welcoming and it was genuine. He should be proud of what he has achieved with restoring the place and the additions to improve the comforts for guests. All the staff we very pleasant and helpful. We were lucky enough to see a big black squirrel from our balcony as well as a family of dusky leaf monkeys on our walk nearby.
