Special experience
Pros: Beautiful heritage house in very central location in old town. Helpful host, clear instructions. Super comfy mattrsses. We enjoyed our stay.
Cons: Maybe not for everyone if you have mobility issues or kids...it is heritage and needs careful use, with original steep stairs. Lots of signage let's you know to take care.

Pros: Loved the vibe of the place, the heritage aspects are really highlighted. Having a space for the whole family was excellent and much better than booking a hotel room. Location was great with excellent roti available in Jalan Argyll, laundromat close by and only a short walk to Red Garden, Chulia Street and Komtar, Prangin and 1st Ave shopping centres.
Cons: The mat in the lounge room is quite rough under foot. My husband is a bigger man and so we were a bit nervous that some of the furniture may not hold his weight, given the heritage aspects. A larger fridge would have been good to store multiple bottles.

We had a fantastic stay at Gaslight Heritage.
Pros: Location was great. The property was stunning. The communication from the host was perfect, speedy responses and happy to provide tips on the local area. The area felt very safe to walk around at night. I can’t fault the stay!

Pleasent stay and helpful hosts. Lovely stay overall.
Pros: Tastefully decorated and situated in the centre of old town. The place can easily access to many tourist attractions, literally next to Jalan Penang. Interesting vintage shops and convenience stores are all within walkable distance.
Cons: Groups with elders pls take note - Unfortunately, there’s no bathroom in the sleep quarter (level 2), both of the bathrooms and toilets are located at ground floor. It’s a hassle waking up in the middle of the night, wanting to use bathroom for the elders. Also, the staircase is rather steep in these old houses, do be careful.

A charming, comfortable, and cosy stay at The Gaslight Heritage Residence
Pros: My family and I had an incredible stay at The Gaslight Heritage Residence in Georgetown, Penang, from 25 to 28 January, 2025. Our host, Jóhan, was fantastic—he responded super quickly to all my messages and requests, which made everything so much easier. The heritage house is incredibly charming and beautifully restored. Don’t miss the outdoor bathroom—it’s a delight to take a shower in the spacious wooden tub! The residence is also very comfortable and conveniently located near shops, restaurants, and a laundromat. Just a heads up for anyone with mobility issues: there’s a steep flight of stairs to reach the first floor, and there’s no toilet up there. So, if you’re elderly or have trouble walking, keep this in mind. Overall, we had a wonderful time, and I would definitely recommend The Gaslight Heritage Residence for a unique stay in Georgetown. Thank you, Jóhan, for being such a great host! We can’t wait to come back!
Cons: There was absolutely nothing we didn't like about our stay.

Wonderful stay that sparked childhood memories
Pros: Everything :) - location was convenient but still quiet enough in both the day and the night. Well and accurately furnished (my mum used to stay in her grandma’s place and she said everything reminded of her childhood).
Cons: There were mozzies. Best to provide more mozzie coils and lighters.

Charming old house with modern amenities situated in heart of Georgetown
Pros: The house ambiance is really great and reminded me of my childhood spent in Penang's old British quarters. The decor and theme set the mood of old Penang—the bygone days and the mix of cultures from different races living together which is great feature of Malaysia. I would definitely suggest this to foreigners visiting Penang so they can relive the same experience.
Cons: Finding parking can be a chore during school holidays weeks and weekend, but that is typical for anywhere in Penang town isnt it!
