Sunway Hotel Georgetown Penang

Stay in Pengang is an enchanting experience and Sunway Hotel stimulates poetic experience of William Shakespeare’s legac

Pros: Excellent facilities and staff are courteous provided assistance 24 x 7. Rooms are well maintained and aptly preventing not to bring in Durian and Mangoesteen which might cause foul smell causing distress fellow guests.

Cons: All are good.

Convenient Location

Pros: The arrival and check-in was made smooth by the reception staff. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was a good size and had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable. There was a good selection of hot choices for breakfast.

Cons: There were a lot of people for breakfast on the first morning (15/02/2026) and the staff had difficulty dealing with the number. There was not much choice for a continental breakfast. Only one coffee machine was working and that was very slow. There are only 6 loungers and 2 bistro sets (4 chairs) at the pool. The pool is very small for such a big hotel.

Thaipusam madness!

Pros: Very big and comfortable rooms. Great pool area and gym facilities. Lovely reception area and professional staff. Beds are exceptionally large. You could sleep 3 in comfort! Bathroom well appointed with good standard shower gel and shampoo. High floors have great views of Georgetown.

Cons: A little away from the main tourist area but all in reasonable walking distance provided you are fit. I had the misfortune to have a front facing room on the day of the Thaipusam festival and awoken by joyous loud music at 6 a.m.! That said the events around Georgetown that day were brilliant to see.

Best hotel for location and breakfast

Pros: Stayed in room 918 Clean spacious with excellent aircon and wifi service Bed and pillows mattress spotless and clean

Cons: TV don’t have international channels only local

Great location, lovely stay

Pros: Great location for local food. Easily walkable to the centre of Georgetown. Large room and bathroom, fully equipped with everything required for our stay. Staff were very helpful. Pool and gym are both great.

Cons: A water machine for refilling bottles would be appreciated. There is one in the gym but the water was always very hot.

Great experience

Pros: Great location close to great eateries, good standard of cleanliness. No issues with the bedsheets, blankets, pillows, towels, etc. We were allowed to check in ahead of time as soon as the room was ready. The staff were very friendly and helpful, assisting us to change rooms when we had an issue with the first one, and providing helpful information about the local area. The choice of lounge music at the entrance of the hotel was great, facilitating a relaxing mood in contrast with the hustle and bustle of the surrounding streets. The entrance of the hotel was set up such that vehicles could safely and easily pick up or drop off guests, as opposed to say a building right off the side of a busy street.

Cons: The first room we were allocated smelled of smoke even though the hotel is meant to be smoke free. The internal phone system didn't seem to be working all too well either. However, the staff assisted us promptly when we went down to the front desk in person.

Exceptional value for money when there's so much choice

Pros: I come to Penang every year to see family and last stayed at Sunway 20 years ago (there's a lot of choice on the island). I will be returning to Sunway Hotel next year as the location is perfect (New Lane Hawkers on your doorstep), the rooms are comfortable, and it's the best value for money.

Spacious clean room, amazing breakfast.

Pros: The “family” room were spacious the hotel provided complementary drinks. We even got a “hot coco” present for Christmas:) The breakfast had all types of food, Chinese, Indian, western, continental, fresh omelette…they even had a “kids corner” with spaghetti or macaroni cheese. Amazing choices. The rooms have black out curtains that provide total darkness. The pool is small but pleasant and apart from late afternoon it was never crowded. The depth is 1.5m but swimming is possible. Bathroom walk in shower was spacious too and very clean.

Cons: There were never enough toilet paper, and the hotel could do with more sun lounger by the pool. There were only 6. The staff was not very smiling. It would have been helpful if the food in the restaurant is explained in English. The indian/malay/chinese names don’t say much. We don’t like all curry dishes only some but also hated wasting food due guessing. The chicken noodle soup was the only awful thing on the menu. Tasted only water. We dont know if all the “family” rooms are located on the lowest floor, but we were very sad to be deprived from the great view of Penang. Our room was looking out the hotel entrance roof top, with a dingy looking boxing arena at the opposite side of the road.
